Outplacement
Career Transition
Career Management International's Outplacement / Career Transition Counseling process provides an affirmative and proactive approach to organizational change that provides success for all parties. It is a no-lose proposition for the organization that is separating employees, for those charged with the task, and for the people being separated.
Organizations using CMI's time tested and innovative approach to outplacement find that our expertise brings actual savings in finances, reputation, and business relationships as well as the preservation of company morale, good will and trade secrets.
Career Management International has a unique approach.
Our clients are more than a number to us. CMI has provided expert career transition services for over three decades and understands that a "one size fits all" approach doesn't serve the needs of the organization, nor those of the separating individuals.
All separating employees at all levels deserve cost effective career transition services, provided either face to face or virtually. Successful results are only accomplished when each separating employee is considered to be an individual, regardless of the level and type of service that they are being provided.
Regardless of the delivery method, all individuals are given resources that fit their needs and prepare them for the future. CMI offers a variety of programs and services targeted for a number of situations, all designed to ensure success.
Since 1976, CMI has provided exceptional resolution rates for outplacement clients from all backgrounds and at all levels because we do not "time limit" services when committed clients need additional assistance beyond their program termination.

Individual Outplacement
CMI began working in the outplacement arena thirty-four years ago by assisting corporations to separate one, or a few, executives who, for whatever reason, had ceased to be productive. Outplacement was a fairly new resource in the 1970's and our programs were designed to assist each separating individual to leave with dignity, to learn what they had to offer the marketplace and to secure a new position that would bring success to them and to the new organization that they joined.
Expansion of innovative methods of providing client services have enhanced CMI's basic premise:
- Determine what each person at each level needs to prosper
- Provide the necessary resources
- Guide and counsel while closely monitoring completion of each step in the process
- Provide the necessary support that leads to success
Group Outplacement
Planning for group outplacement should be approached differently from individual outplacement, but often this is not the case. While this type of event involves more people who will be leaving the organization within a scheduled time period, each person's treatment during and after the notification is of paramount importance.
CMI recognizes that group outplacement requires attention to detail, careful planning and execution so that those separating receive consistent messages and exit calmly, understanding that they will receive the career/life transition assistance that they need.
CMI has contributed to the success of numerous large group outplacements in multiple industries without any unplanned, or potentially disastrous, consequences.

Retirement Services in Outplacement
Career Management International, Inc. helps retirees build a plan that includes personal, marital, career, eldercare, financial and legal considerations. CMI's Retirement Program addresses the emotional concerns and the apprehension associated with both early and full-term employee retirement.
Retirement planning is more than money.
Career transition often is unexpected and individuals who are "retirement age" are separated from organizations regularly. In a majority of situations, while the individual's age may appear to make retirement appropriate, that person's financial, emotional or family situation is just the opposite: retirement is not an option! This is perhaps the most difficult transition scenario because individuals who have been in the workforce for twenty to thirty years often feel that they are too old to begin again and that they can't successfully position themselves in today's marketplace.

CMI's tools and counselors provide the basis for successful career/life transition at any age. Goals for those who truly are able to and want to fully retire are to provide life balance services that can be employed during the retirement process and beyond. The goal when working with those who are hoping to semi-retire, but also to find work that is commensurate with their abilities, is to assist them to confidentially pursue positions, armed with specific knowledge of what they bring to the marketplace. Those who decide that retirement is not for them proceed from the assessment phase into the active full-time marketing stage of the career transition process.
Today's Reality...
Americans now live on average for more than 77 years, and that number is on the rise. The quality of life issue is influenced by health issues for some, but for many, it is the lack of a purpose in life that impedes happiness and contributes to despondence.
By 2020 there will be more than 44 million Americans over the age of 65, including more than 7 million over the age of 85. This will be more than 17% of the population of the United States. In addition to the deficits that are leading to reductions in medicare, retirees cannot always count on the continuation of a pension as they age, nor is social security as secure as was once thought. Full retirement will not be possible for many.
...leads to a call for tomorrow's plan.
These statistics suggest that a number of us will be living longer and will have much more time to spend after we stop working, so we face the challenge of deciding what we want to do with this gift of extra time.
CMI's Retirement Program equips individuals with an understanding of their finances: what they already have, what they can reasonably expect to receive from social security, investments, pensions, and so on, and the knowledge of what they will need to enter a retirement that will be practical, functional and rewarding. Financial gaps will be thoroughly addressed and potential solutions, if warranted, are provided.
In addition to financial planning, participants will be offered assistance with developing a life plan to include: strength assessments and bio/resume preparation for volunteer work, part-time or return to full-time employment; a marketing plan specifically designed to highlight their experience and measurable professional accomplishments,; assistance with networking and interviewing; referrals to appropriate hiring resources; information and discussion of eldercare options and sessions dealing with individual and family emotional issues.
